On November 1998, California voters passed the California Children and Families Act of 1998. The act levies a tax on cigarettes and other tobacco products with the intent to provide funding for early childhood development programs, in addition to establishing a State Commission and local County Commissions for this purpose.

Community Development Mini-Grants

BabywHat2Community Development Mini-Grant STEP Two Applicants: The Imperial County Children and Families First Commission (First 5 Imperial) has allocated $100,000 for the purpose of awarding a number of mini-grant projects for funding for fiscal year 2017-2018. The maximum award is $25,000 for individual applications. The course of action entails a two-step process, where potential applicanMG Imagets submit a Statement of Interest to Apply form under Step 1 of this process. The Commission selects applicants submitting Statement of Interest to Apply forms for Step 2, thus inviting selected applicants to apply by completing and submitting a Community Development Mini-grant Application by March 20, 2017. At the Februray 9, 2017 regular meeting of the Commission five agencies, that submitted six Statement of Interest to Apply forms, were selected to continue on to Step 2, and therefore were invited to compete for a Community Development Mini-Grant award for the 2017-2018 funding cycle.
